Margot Robbie has broken her silence following the surprising news of her omission from the Best Actress category at the 2024 Oscars for her role in the 2023 blockbuster, Barbie.

Despite the disappointment expressed by fans over her Oscars snub, Robbie remains unfazed and grateful for the positive aspects of her career. Speaking at a SAG-AFTRA discussion reported by Variety, Robbie said, “There’s no way to feel sad when you know you’re this blessed.” She also shared her admiration for Greta Gerwig, suggesting Gerwig should have been nominated as a director for her exceptional work.

Acknowledging the extraordinary achievements of the films and individuals who received nominations, Robbie emphasized, “It’s been an incredible year for all the films.” She expressed pride in the collective effort to create something impactful, stating, “We set out to do something that would shift culture, affect culture, just make some sort of impact. And it’s already done that and some, way more than we ever dreamed it would.”

For Robbie, the true reward lies in the profound impact the film has had on people and their reactions. She noted, “People’s reactions to the movie have been the biggest reward of this entire experience.” Reflecting on the uniqueness of Barbie’s cultural influence, Robbie remarked, “I’ve never been a part of something like this. Not like this. I’ve done comic book stuff and that gets a big reaction, but this felt very different. It still feels very different. And I can’t think of a time when a movie’s had this effect on culture. And it’s amazing to be in the eye of the storm.”

While Robbie may have missed out on an individual nomination, her Barbie co-stars, Ryan Gosling and America Ferrera, have earned Oscar nods. The 96th Academy Awards, where the outcomes will be revealed, will be broadcast live.
