‘Oppenheimer’ Takes the Lead with 13 Nominations in the 2024 Oscars, Followed by ‘Poor Things’ at 11, ‘Killers of the Flower Moon’ at 10, and ‘Barbie’ with Eight. The Best Picture Category Will See Competition Among ‘American Fiction,’ ‘Anatomy of a Fall,’ ‘The Holdovers,’ ‘Maestro,’ ‘Past Lives,’ and ‘The Zone of Interest.’

The 2024 Oscar nominations mostly followed expectations. Movies like Oppenheimer and Barbie got nominated for Best Picture, along with popular films like The Holdovers, Poor Things, and Killers of the Flower Moon.

Barbie received two nominations for Best Original Song – “I’m Just Ken” (by Mark Ronson and Andrew Wyatt) and “What Was I Made For?” (by Billie Eilish and Finneas). Barbie is the first movie in seven years to have two songs nominated, following La La Land with “City of Stars” and “Audition (The Fools Who Dream).”

The late Robbie Robertson got a nomination for Best Original Score for Killers of the Flower Moon. This marked his 12th and final collaboration with director Martin Scorsese. Robertson, who passed away in June at 80, is the first composer since 1976 to be posthumously nominated in this category, following the legendary Bernard Herrmann for Obsession and Taxi Driver.

However, not everything happened as pundits predicted, as you’ll soon find out.

Jimmy Kimmel is hosting the 2024 Oscars on March 10 at the Dolby Theatre in Hollywood. It will be Kimmel’s fourth time as the host. The ABC-aired ceremony is executive produced by Raj Kapoor, Molly McNearney, and Katy Mullan, with Kapoor also serving as showrunner. Hamish Hamilton is the director.
