Bruce Springsteen shared the sad news on Thursday (Feb. 1) that his mother, Adele, passed away on Wednesday at the age of 98. The 74-year-old rock icon conveyed the news through an Instagram post, accompanied by a heartwarming throwback video of him dancing with his mother to Glenn Miller’s “In the Mood.” The post was captioned with the dates of her birth and passing: “Adele Springsteen – May 4, 1925-January 31, 2024.”

In a poignant touch, Springsteen complemented the video with lyrics from his 1998 song “The Wish,” capturing memories of his mother’s morning routine and the joy she found in her daily life. The lyrics expressed the absence of conventional gestures like phone calls, flowers, or Mother’s Day cards, emphasizing the enduring connection they shared.

Bruce Springsteen also noted in the post that Adele is survived by two daughters, Pamela and Virginia. Their father, Douglas Springsteen, to whom Adele was married in 1948, passed away in 1998.

A native of Brooklyn, New York, Adele was not only the proud mother of a rock legend but also a devoted supporter of her son’s music. She occasionally joined him onstage at concerts to dance, showcasing her love for the art form. Bruce Springsteen once shared in a July 2021 Broadway performance that his mother’s love for dance, rooted in the big bands and swing bands of the 1940s, persisted even as she battled Alzheimer’s in her later years.

Reflecting on her love for dancing, he said, “She’s 95, and she’s 10 years into Alzheimer’s, and that’s taken a lot away from us. But the need to dance hasn’t left her.” The tribute to Adele Springsteen encapsulates the enduring bond between a mother and a rock icon, with memories that will resonate through the timeless rhythm of their shared love for music and dance.
