Selena Gomez Champions Mental Health at Rare Beauty Summit

Selena Gomez continued her mission for mental health awareness at the 3rd annual Rare Beauty Mental Health Summit in New York City. She opened up about her personal journey with Today’s Hoda Kotb, discussing the steps she takes to protect her mental well-being.

Setting Boundaries for Better Mental Health:

One key step, even for the most-followed woman on Instagram, was taking control of her online presence. “I disabled all my comments on photos…for only my friends,” she explained to Kotb. “I think I’ve created boundaries to help me. Obviously people fussed about it, but I felt empowered by doing that,” she added, emphasizing the importance of taking control of what she sees online.

Positive People & a Supportive Partner:

Surrounding herself with positive influences is another part of Gomez’s self-care strategy. She mentioned her boyfriend, Benny Blanco, as a source of support, calling him “wonderful.” “It’s all about owning my power,” she said, “and I am who I surround myself with.” Blanco echoed this sentiment on Instagram, commenting on her summit photos, “i’m so proud of u bb, u inspire me.”

Rare Impact Fund Makes a Difference:

The summit also celebrated the success of the Rare Impact Fund. This initiative, spearheaded by Gomez and Dr. Vivek Murthy (U.S. Surgeon General), has raised $7 million in the past year for mental health charities. These partner organizations focus on providing wellness resources, suicide prevention programs, and more to young people.

A Journey of Growth:

“I will always be working on my mental health, and I will always evolve,” Gomez declared at the event. “I’m not better or worse than anyone. I’m simply just a person living and surviving every day.” This message highlights her commitment to mental health advocacy and her journey of self-discovery.
